A special meeting of the National Council for Building a Better Fiji (NCBBF) was held on the 19 September 2008. The meeting was convened to take stock of the nation-wide consultation on the draft Peoples Charter for Change, Peace and Progress.
The NCBBF decided that the overall time dedicated for the public outreach and consultation process on the draft Peoples Charter should be extended from the end of September to the middle of December 2008.
The decision was reached after hearing reports from the Head of the NCBBF Secretariat and the four Divisional Commissioners, on the distribution of the Draft Peoples Charter and the Executive summary of State of the Nation and Economy (SNE) Report; and on the convening of the public forums and consultations currently being held in cities, towns and villages throughout the country.
The distribution throughout Fiji of the Draft Peoples Charter and the SNE Report executive summary is almost complete.
NCBBF members are of the view that the extra time allowed will ensure a more broad-based and robust consultation process.
The NCBBF reiterates its commitment to ensure that the people are given opportunity and enough time to read, digest and comment on the draft Peoples Charter.
