Charter’s Key Objective Is To Ensure Political Stability

THE People’s Charter for Change, Peace and Progress (PCCPP), if accepted, will ensure long term political stability in Fiji , says Head, Technical and Support Secretariat, John Samy.

Mr Samy said whilst the Charter can be seen as the exit strategy for the Interim Government, the ultimate goal is to find solutions to arrest the deep-rooted problems in the country.

“The Charter will seek to ensure sustainable democracy and progress for Fiji,” Mr Samy said.

“The Charter also aims to find solutions to arrest the country’s ongoing problems .”

People’s Charter is an initiative of the Interim Prime Minister, Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama, who is also co-chairing the National Council.

Commodore Bainimarama is on record saying the Charter once ready, will be a foundation document that will bring about new ways of doing things and the way the people want to be governed.

The Prime Minister also reiterated that the Charter will be his exit strategy as it will form the basis of good governance, which will lead Fiji to peace and prosperity.

“I have made it clear that the People’s Charter is my exit strategy. When the people have, through the participatory and consultative process, expressed their will in the form of the People’s Charter, then I will return to the barracks,” he earlier  said.

Mr Samy stressed the people of Fiji have an opportunity to participate fully in the process which will reshape Fiji ’s history.

“People should come forward and participate in this national initiative; they must make their views known,” Mr Samy said.
